I will assemble bits and pieces of this 1st world congress on infrastructure and asset management that is being held today 22-24 Febuary 2011. Further details on the topic easily found on the net, never to forget that there is a common keyword between this blog and the congress, ie infra .

Experts are here in Kuala Lumpur to preach asset related matters, in proper, professional ways. This is a specialised trade that needs to be learned. A few clever quotes or definitions on the topic, from the learned speakers, and fair reminder from/to present authority;

Sustainable Performance: Consistent achievement of a predefined set of objectives.Asset Management Framework: A structured approach which captures all those activities linking Corporate Objectives to the Execution of Asset Management Plans. - Keynote 2 by Robert Davis

Today, peoples’ needs and requirements have increased. The infrastructure amenities such as good and safe roads, efficient public transportation services, world class airports and other facilities have become obligatory for the government to provide. Due to this, the Government has taken initiative to carry out a total asset management. It begins with the process of planning the creation of assets by taking into account the aspect of lasting development and green technology so that the assets can provide benefits to the users in term of safety and comfort. This is followed with assets establishment process that is performed according to the stipulated establishment process. Next is assets utilisation phase which involves asset operation and maintenance and finally assets disposal phase where the use of assets is stopped when their service is no longer required or no longer economical to be operated. - Keynote 1

PAS in this country is a political party, while PAS 55 mentioned throughout the congress is another guidance. BSI PAS 55 definition of Asset Management: “systematic and co-ordinated activities and practices through which an organisation optimally and sustainably manages its assets and asset systems, their associated performance, risks and expenditures over their lifecycle for the purpose of achieving its organisational strategic plan”
